The Beaches

Before moving to Scotland, when I thought of the Scottish Highlands, I had beautiful mountain ranges, open moorland, ancient forests, whiskey distilleries, bagpipes and the occasional highland terrier. Well, since living here, I have to say that I need to add another notch to the post, beautiful deserted beaches. Here are just a few of the stunning sandy expanses that we have found.

Bit crowded….(secret beach)

  • What3words = skirting.misfits.invisible

  • Latitude = 57.584418 / Longitude = -3.93465

  • Dog friendly = Yes, however, there are sheep in the fields that you walk past on your way to the beach. Sometimes these sheep ‘escape’ and are in the scrub area that leads to the beach. If you are unsure, always keep your dog on a lead until you are sure the area is safe. Also, there are no dog poop bins, please bag your poop up and take it with you (don’t be a bag it and leave it person).

  • Parking = No official parking, but there are spots where you can park up at the side of the dirt track (obviously don’t block the road for people coming in either direction).

  • Toilets = No

  • Description = Now the term ‘Secret Beach’ I think might be a bit over reaching (as someone has pinned it on googlemaps, this makes me question the true clandestine nature of the place, hmmmm). The name aside, the beach is stunning, clean sand as far as the eye can see, and almost no one goes on the beach (even in the height of summer).
